Gun Control is Coming (Part 1 of 2)

The Obama administration won’t come knocking on your door to confiscate your guns. Federal agents won’t be roving neighborhoods in armored vehicles kicking down doors.  The Left is dumb, but they aren’t that dumb.  No. They’re insidious.  And patient.  16103339740_bdf5ec50a2Disarming the American population of its 2nd Amendment right will come in stages—insidious incremental stages.  In fact, as time goes on, many gun owners will voluntarily—if not happily—hand over their firearms.

The damage wrought by the Left in this country over the past 100 years has largely unmoored Americans from its founding principles. Most the population is completely ignorant or misinformed about our founding principles. (I was among them.)  Nearly half of Americans are downright hostile toward their own country.  The damage is so severe, people so deeply indoctrinated through schools and the media, the 2nd Amendment doesn’t stand a chance of surviving no matter who is elected president this fall.

Gun control is coming. Gun control will get worse and worse and worse with each coming wave of Fundamentalist Muslim terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, e.g. ISIS, al-Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Taliban, Muslim Brotherhood, etc.  Gun control is coming in stages, which of course began in 1934 under the Left’s hero Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt.  Then it came again with the Gun Control Act of 1968, signed into law by the Left’s hero Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson.  Then again, more gun control in 1993 with the Brady Act, signed into law by the Left’s hero Pres. Bill Clinton.  (Is it just me, or is a pattern developing.)  Little by little.

Now, with the Left stronger than ever, and terrorist attacks in our own backyard, gun control legislation will move forward.  As Americans feel less and less secure, more and more will they unwittingly surrender their God-given rights to the state for promises of protection.

Benjamin Franklin said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” (11-11-1755, Pennsylvania Assembly)

Gun control, and ultimately gun confiscation, will come in stages. Based on history’s lessons, and the nature of the American culture, I see gun confiscation coming in 5 stages.  (I haven’t given them pithy names yet.)

  1. Identify who has guns.
  2. Restrict the manufacture, transport, sale, purchase, and use of guns and ammunition.
  3. Disarm targeted segments of the population, involuntarily.

  1. Voluntary disarmament.
  2. Outright involuntary seizure of firearms and ammo from citizens.

I separate stages 1, 2, 3 from 4, 5 for a reason. Nazi Germany followed stages 1, 2, 3.  But disarming Americans takes a bit more patience and finesse.  Expect stages 4 and 5 added to America’s gun confiscation plan.  Stages overlap and undergird the next.  I will go through each of the 5 stages in order, breaking this post into 2 parts.

Leftist governments need to know who has the guns before they can begin taking them away. This requires a National Gun Registry.  Disarming the German population actually began in the 1920’s before the rise of Hitler.  It began with national gun registration.  However, the gun registry was rather unorganized across the country.  When Hitler came to power in the 1930’s, he organized and centralized Germany’s gun registry.  Hitler needed to know who among his political enemies and the Jewish population owned firearms so he could target and disarm them efficiently.

We do not yet have a national gun registry in America. Though the Left has proposed it many times.  What we have today is a Gun Dealer Background Check, created by the Brady Act of 1993.  The Gun Dealer Background Check is not a gun registry.  The Gun Dealer Background Check is only a background check on the person buying a firearm.  The gun dealer does not inform the government about the type of firearm the buyer is buying.

The Gun Dealer Background Check requires a licensed gun dealer (Federal Firearms Licensed, FFL dealer, licensed by the ATF) to call the FBI hotline before selling a firearm to a buyer. The dealer calls the FBI hotline, gives the name and identity of the buyer to the FBI employee, the FBI checks 3 databases to see if there is a disqualifying reason to sell the firearm to the buyer.  Disqualifying reasons include felonies, illegal/unlawful alien, adjudicated mental health problems, renounced U.S. citizenship, dishonorable discharge, and others.

Several states require a state background check in addition to the FBI’s federal background check.

The dealer’s phone call to the FBI usually takes 2-5 minutes while the gun buyer waits. If no red flags appear on the FBI databases, the buyer is free to buy the gun.  The ATF requires gun dealers to maintain background check records indefinitely.  Approximately 0.5% of gun buyers are turned down by the FBI.

The next evolution toward a national gun registry is to advance the Gun Dealer Background Check to a Universal Background Check. President Obama has proposed a Universal Background Check.  The Universal Background Check is more restrictive than the Gun Dealer Background Check.  The current Gun Dealer Background Check only requires licensed firearm dealers to pass a buyer through the FBI’s background database.  But a lot of firearms are sold, bought, and traded by individual gun owners.  These individuals are simply gun owners, collectors, and gun enthusiasts who sell guns but not as an ongoing business enterprise.  Obama’s Universal Background Check would require ANY and ALL gun sellers to complete an FBI background check on their buyers whether they are a licensed gun dealer or not.

The last step to “identifying who has guns” is implementing a National Gun Registry. A registry would not only require a background check of buyers, but also identify to the government detailed information about the firearms buyers are taking home.  A National Gun Registry will of course identify and catalogue all new gun purchases.  But what about the 250 million firearms already sold?  How does a centralized Leftist regime locate 250 million “unaccounted for” rifles, shotguns, and handguns in the homes of Americans today?  Identifying those owners will require an insidious patient thinker, and a lot of snitching.  I will explore stages 2, 3, 4, and 5 in my next post.  To read Part 2, click HERE.
