The 2nd Amendment like any other Amendment can be repealed from the U.S. Constitution. It can be repealed by the amendment process allowed by Article V of the Constitution. Case in point, the 18th Amendment (ratified in 1919, prohibited the manufacture and sale of alcohol in America) was repealed by amendment with the ratification of the 21st Amendment in 1933.
In the wake of recent mass shootings, President Obama promises to curb these tragic occurrences by enacting stricter gun control laws. In other words, Obama is threatening to further infringe 2nd Amendment rights before his term of office expires. Obama’s last day in office is January 20th 2017 (if he is not impeached).
Will Obama make good on his promise? When it comes to foreign policy—something Obama hates doing—his word is not his bond. Obama is a domestic policy guy. When it comes to advancing his Leftist ideology domestically, eroding individual liberty, we can take him at his word. He means it. Obama means to fundamentally transform America, with or without America’s permission.
President Obama has no intention of following the Constitution to change the Constitution. To further infringe our right to bear arms, Obama has no intention of rallying a coalition of Congressmen or states to repeal the 2nd Amendment via Article V of the Constitution. Nor will he attempt to influence Congress to create additional gun control laws like the Brady Act of 1993. No. Not only does Obama despise the underlying principles of the U.S. Constitution, he won’t even play by the rules to change it! That’s how the Left works.
Who needs Article V to change the Constitution? Who needs Congress? Not Obama. He has “a pen and a phone.” After 239 years as a representative federal republic we finally have a king again—His Royal Majesty, King Barrack H. Obama. Thanks to Obama’s deception, a complicit Leftist media, and a thoroughly corrupt and cowardly Republican party in the House and Senate.
Take heart. All is not lost. In fact, a great deal remains intact.
Yes, it is true an Amendment such as the 2nd Amendment can be legally repealed from the Constitution. However, the right to “bear and keep arms” can NEVER be removed from mankind. It cannot be removed, repealed, rescinded, abrogated or erased from man. Not by man. Not by man-made institutions. The right to bear arms is not a man-made law, legal right, civil statute, government entitlement, or privilege of citizenship. It is God’s Law.
The right to bear arms is even more fundamentally important than that of the 2nd Amendment providing a check against a national standing army. Which in itself is genius. (Click here to see my recent article “2nd Amendment is Another Constitutional Check & Balance.”)
The 2nd Amendment is a declaration we the people believe Laws of Nature and Nature’s God entitles individuals to own and use effective and lethal means of defending one’s person, family, and country against physical harm, death, and tyranny. That is, evil. Individual acts of evil, and group evil. Tyranny is nothing more than organized evil.
The inclusion of the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution is simply a recognition that the right to bear arms is one of many eternal Natural rights given man by God. Given to man since before time. We affirm this eternal right and codify it in our little and humble Founding documents. The U.S. Constitution did not create the right; God created the right. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. (Matthew 19:6).
The sixth of God’s 10 Commandments is “Thou shall not murder.” (Exodus 20:13). This tells me murder is an act of evil, an act contrary to God’s will. I can assume it is incumbent upon me to act, defy and defend against such evil acts. With effective and lethal means if necessary.
More than half of the 27 Constitutional Amendments recognize these Natural God-given eternal and unalienable rights. The other half are governing laws. The 12th Amendment for example is a governing law stating how state Electors are selected and vote for President and Vice President.
The following Amendments recognize eternal unalienable rights given us by God: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 19, 24, and 26. Of course there are many more Natural rights of man that are not listed among the Amendments. Our Founders were creating a governing document fit to preserve a nation of free people, not a theocracy.
Our Founders built into our system of government several means of addressing necessary changes. We have a written Constitution. We can amend the Constitution. We have local, state, and federal governing bodies. We have checks and balances. We have representatives elected by the people. We have regular elections. We have a free press. And just in case all those checks succumb to corruption and tyranny, our Founders built in two last barriers.
The second to last barrier against corruption and tyranny is hidden in plain sight in Article V of the U.S. Constitution. A Constitutional Convention of the States. Whereby the states themselves can write and ratify Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, circumventing Washington D.C. completely. (This process is currently underway. See ConventionOfStates.com and support the cause.)
And finally, if ALL ELSE FAILS—regular and fair elections, elected representatives in Washington, the media, and Article V—our Founders included one last provision in the Constitution standing as the bulwark against an out-of-control tyrannical centralized government: the 2nd Amendment. Indeed, the fundamental purpose of this Amendment is to give our countrymen the means to forcefully overthrow a tyrannical government. Yes, by bloody violent means. The 2nd Amendment is the Pull-in-Case-of-Emergency option when there are no more options.
Do we Constitutional Conservatives cling to our Bibles and guns, like Obama said? He mocks us. He mocks our Founders. He mocks our Founding principles and documents. Do we cling to our Bibles and guns? You’re damn right we do! And so did our Founders. The Bible is our nation’s first best chance; our guns are our nation’s last best chance.
